PLEASE VOTE to elect
Silvia Alexandria Mansoor
onto the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners in District H
You might be wondering why you should elect me onto the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners. Please read below to learn more about my intentions. More importantly, if you have any questions that are not answered by this page or anywhere else you may be looking, feel free to directly reach out.
Q: Why did you decide to become actively involved in the State Bar?
A: One of my mentors highly encouraged me to get actively involved, and I am glad that I did. I have had the privilege of meeting some of the most amazing attorneys and friends throughout the years because of the State Bar.
Q: How long have you been involved?
A: I have been a member since 2014, which was when I became licensed to practice. Not long after that, I became actively involved in its Young Lawyers Section (YLS). Fun Fact: Did you know that after becoming licensed in the State of Michigan, you are automatically a member of the YLS?! This involvement also allowed me to serve one of the largest sections of the State Bar through various programming and volunteering activities. After spending a few years on the YLS Council, I ran for an officer position and continued my way up to the Chair role. During my time as Chair-Elect, Chair, and Ex-Officio (Immediate Past Chair), I have also held a seat on the SBM Board of Commissioners. Through that, I have been able to donate my time to several committees, including marketing and public policy.
Q: What do you like most about the State Bar?
A: First and foremost, its people—both staff and members. In addition to that, it has so many resources for practitioners and the public alike. The more time I spend with the State Bar, the more I learn about what it has to offer. One of my favorite resources that I look to on a daily basis is the eJournal, which provides me updates on cases that are relevant to my practice.
Q: Why should you be on the Board of Commissioners?
Experience. In addition to being actively involved with the State Bar for nearly a decade now, I already have experience on the Board of Commissioners because of my SBM YLS officer roles. With your vote, I am looking to continue my service and build upon what I already know.
Dedication. My dedication to the State Bar throughout the years is a testament to the work that I plan on continuing with the Board of Commissioners. I have been a member since 2014 and actively involved since 2017. In addition to my work through the YLS, I have also attended numerous Negligence Law, Healthcare Law, Insurance & Indemnity Law, & Litigation Section (and more!) events.
Growth. Our practice is evolving. A new generation is graduating law school and entering the profession. The organization is only as strong as the members that continue to join. I am growth-minded when it comes to future generations. We need to maintan and grow our connections in the community at large—whether through mentorship programs, supporting K-12 mock trial events, or general education regarding the profession—in order to maintain the future of our profession.
Willingness to Learn. Wouldn’t it be great if I said I had all the answers, and I actually had them?! Nobody does though. As attorneys, we are tasked with learning about the facts and law surrounding an issue. Bar leaders also need to learn: about the members’ needs, issues that are affecting the membership, and the rapidly evolving challenges of the modern legal landscape.
