PLEASE VOTE to elect

Silvia Alexandria Mansoor

onto the OCBA Board of Directors

Thank you for your votes!! We won!

As you already know by now, I have been involved with the Oakland County Bar Association almost ten years now—how time flies! You might be wondering why it is that you should elect me onto its Board of Directors. Please, read below to learn more about my intentions. More importantly, if you have any questions that are not answered by this page or anywhere else you may be looking, feel free to reach out with specific questions.

Q: Why have you stayed involved in the OCBA for so long?

A: In law school and as new and/or young attorneys, we are taught to network. Network—they say—that is how you will find a job and get clients. For some, this works; for others, it may not. However, one thing is certain—along the way, you will meet people who you can call friends and mentors in both the professional and personal settings. The people of the OCBA is what has kept me around for so long. Through its people, I have laughed a lot, learned much, and have maintained a sense of awe for almost everybody that I have gotten to know.

Q: Ok, fine, but people aside, why do you think the OCBA is special?

A: In my eyes, the OCBA does well to maintain a sense of community within the legal profession and the surrounding geographic public at large and does well to present great networking events, legal seminars, and other educational sessions. Its staff is friendly, tireless, and dedicated.

Q: People get it—you like the OCBA. So do others. Why should you be on its Board of Directors though?

Dedication. My dedication to this specific organization throughout the years is a testament to why I would make a good addition to the Board of Directors. I became actively involved back in 2015. Since then, I have contributed in immeasurable ways that I sometimes have to be reminded about things I have done. The bulk of my service, however, has come through the New Lawyers Committee. It is a wonderful first step for anybody out of law school. I was honored to serve as its Chair during the 2022-23 term.

Connection. Having the fresh New Lawyers Committee experience—in addition to my experience with the State Bar of Michigan Young Lawyers Section—I can work to help strengthen the bond with incoming attorneys and law students. Our practice is evolving. A new generation is graduating law school and entering the profession. The organization is only as strong as the members that continue to join. I would be delighted to not only contribute my perspective and insights, but also continue working on reaching out to newer generations of attorneys.

Collaboration. The OCBA does well to collaborate with other organizations. I would continue to encourage that. Collaboration brings about new ideas, new views, new members, and new connections that may not otherwise have been possible.

Experience. I have been involved with organizations since my undergraduate years. With me, I would bring a functional level of understanding.
